Intel’s US$16.7bn acquisition of Altera

Rothschild Global Advisory assisted Intel, a world leader in computing innovation, on its landmark US$16.7bn acquisition of Altera Corporation

The transaction combined two highly complementary businesses and is expected to enable new classes of products to become available that meet customer needs in the data centre and Internet of Things markets. This landmark transaction represents Intel's largest acquisition in its corporate history.

Intel designs and builds the essential technologies that serve as the foundation for the world's computing devices. Altera's programmable solutions enable designers of electronic systems to rapidly and cost effectively innovate, differentiate and win in their markets. The acquisition couples Intel's leading-edge products and manufacturing process with Altera's leading field-programmable gate array (FPGA) technology.

Altera shareholders received $54.00 in cash for each share of Altera, representing a US$16.7bn equity value. The purchase consideration was financed with a combination of cash from the balance sheet, and debt.
