Bow School is a boys’ secondary school based in an economically deprived part of East London.

Its pupils are drawn from a community which has suffered generations of unemployment and which needs help to end the cycle.

Through Rothschild’s flagship Gifted and Talented Mentoring Programme, volunteers are currently helping fifty students to learn about the benefits of pursuing higher education and encouraging them to aim high. In the majority of cases, the students’ parents have not been to university and are not necessarily in a position to help their children make the best choices.  Mentoring opens the students’ eyes to the opportunities that might be available to them and, crucially, to the realities of the hard work they need to do right now to ensure they are able to take advantage of them.
