UK Gap Year Placements

Please note that all positions have been filled until September 2010. Applications will be open for September 2010 - September 2011 in September 2009.
We offer a Gap Year Programme to students who are taking a year off during their education. Some placements are with the teams in Investment Banking in London; others are based in the Information Centre. The placements run for a period of six months.
Further information on the Investment Banking division is given. You will be working with one of the sector or product teams, providing research and data to enable them to formulate the advice and views they give clients and future potential clients of the bank.
The Information Centre is Rothschild's UK research hub. You will be working with the team of researchers to provide timely and accurate information in response to requests from UK and overseas departments within the bank.
In either location, you will come into contact with people at all levels within the bank, so good interpersonal and communications skills are a necessity.
Daily duties will involve searching for and downloading company documents, maintaining an electronic library, collating public information on companies for internal and client use, and a range of other administrative tasks.
The successful applicant will receive a week’s training on Excel, financial analysis, valuation and the presentation of research information. You will also learn about a wide range of financial information systems and internet-based databases in order to provide the information for which you are asked.
Because of the nature of the work, preference will be given to candidates who can demonstrate a good awareness of, and interest in, current events in the financial and economic markets. Some familiarity with using e-mail, the internet, word-processing and spreadsheet packages is desirable for this role.
This is an excellent opportunity to get a good overview of the workings of an investment bank and finance in general. Please note, however, that this is not a route into Investment Banking and applications for Investment Banking should be directed through the Internship or Graduate Programmes.
