Rothschild in the Community

Rothschild in the Community

Across two centuries, the Rothschild family has involved itself in activities for the improvement of social and educational conditions and opportunities.  This work has touched upon an enormous range of social issues, from work with deprived or orphaned children, through biological and medical research and the provision of medical facilities, to education through schools and libraries, the relief and housing of the poor, cultural and artistic support and encouragement and support to Jewish organisations and issues.

Today, the Rothschild in the Community programme continues this long tradition of community involvement by engaging our people in local volunteering programmes.

Launched by David de Rothschild in January 2008 and led by Anthony Salz, Executive Vice-Chairman, Rothschild in the Community seeks to develop community partnerships with the potential to effect real and measurable change in the lives of people living locally to our offices: in the UK initially, and with a view to expanding the programme globally over time.

All UK employees are entitled to spend two paid days per year volunteering, and additionally are encouraged to get involved in ongoing weekly volunteering initiatives such as mentoring school students.

In 2008/9, 32% of London staff volunteered at least once - often more - through this programme.  We

are delighted that our early work in developing a sustainable community programme has been recognised through the awarding of a 2008 Dragon Award in the category for new programmes.
