Environment
We recognise that Rothschild’s day to day operations have an impact on the environment.
We are committed to reducing that impact, promoting environmental awareness among our people, and to achieving continuous improvement in our environmental performance.
Our environmental activities are driven by our Environment Committee, made up of employees from across the firm.
Our greatest priority is to reduce our use of energy, particularly electricity, year on year. We are currently achieving significant efficiencies and reductions in CO2 emissions through continued monitoring and adjustment of heating and cooling systems.
Air travel and the ability to meet our clients face to face is an important part of our business, and a significant contributor to our overall CO2 emissions. This is not an easy area to tackle, but we are committed to raising staff awareness of the environmental impact of air travel and in particular the high levels of emissions associated with flying Business Class.
We promote a policy of reducing waste, reusing what we or others can, and recycling as much as possible. The majority of our food waste is recycled into fertiliser. All residual waste is sent for incineration with heat-recovery, thus diverting it from landfill.
In addition we use recycled paper, mugs instead of disposable coffee cups and filtered tap water, in place of bottled water, in meeting rooms.
We have recently launched a series of Green Supplier workshops through which we aim to engage our key suppliers in our environmental journey by learning from each other and encouraging each other to improve.
